HISTORY



Intersand is a family owned company, born in 1992 in Varennes, Quebec. From the start, the company’s mission is to produce superior quality cat litters in both clumping and absorbing/traditional versions, then mostly for private labels sold in pet stores, pharmacy and supermarket chains, and in mass merchandising stores.

Two years later, to answer the many needs of the market, Intersand decides to start producing its own brands. Therefore, in 1994, are created such products as Misty, Miny and City Classic.

In 1996 Intersand, looking closely at foreign markets, starts to sell the international version of its successful City Classic: Extreme Classic. It is such a huge success that, by 1998, the Varennes plant is already too small and the company has to move into a much bigger one, next to the railroad tracks and close to the Port of Montreal. In the fall of 1999 is the official opening of the new and improved Intersand plant!

In 2004 Mr. Stéphane Chevigny, president and CEO, redefines Intersand’s mission: “To improve and simplify animal hygiene through innovation.” Therefore, the focus is put more than ever on healthier solutions and products for beloved pets.

But new sales and clients keep coming in and again, the plant has to be enlarged, modernised, and more high tech machines have to be brought in. Basically, in just a few years, Intersand had to more than quadruple its production capacity to answer the needs of its clients, while focusing more and more on improving the quality of its products!

By investing into its future, while still offering a dedicated personalised service to its clients, Intersand is now a world renowned player in the animal hygiene, with products being sold in more 25 countries!
